No domestic flights operate on this airport.
Adampur Airport is currently an Air Force Station and also a proposed domestic airport to be built at Adampur near Jalandhar. The Central government cleared the techno-feasibility report for setting up the Adampur Airport in July 2015. Airport Authority of India has inspected the proposed site of 50 acres of land after receiving No Objection Certificate from Indian Airforce.
The airport will help Doaba region of Punjab as this area is also called the NRI Hub of Punjab as a consequence of the migration of a significant percentage of Doabias. The Adampur Air Force Station at Adampur Doaba is the largest Air-force base of India.
After getting a huge demand from the public in Doaba Region
Defence minister Manohar Parikar has assured to provide commercial status to the Adampur defence airport. This would give an impetus to economic activities in the Doaba region besides facilitating the NRI belt,"
Sukhbir said he took up the issue with the defence minister and added that the Punjab government has also sent a letter to the ministry concerned to use the airport for passenger activities.
He also said the state government would spent Rs 10,000 crore on building infrastructure in the state. Out of it, Rs 4,000 would be spent on sewerage, drinking water, street lights in 150 towns.
Bhatinda Airport is now being reconstructed from an Air force station and is categorized under civil enclave by the airport authority of India. Earlier it was Bhisiana Airforce Station and was used as the base of Indian Air Force. New domestic terminal is nearly completed and work is going on to build the new terminals. This airport is still not active but some private jets take flight from here for government purposes only. A total loan sanction of Rs. 25 crore has been provided to make this airport. The new facilities to be provided in airport include international terminals and VIP lounges as per government announcements.
Bhatinda Airport Terminals:
Terminal 1 - New Domestic: Bhatinda airport will soon be active with its new domestic terminal which is complete and will resume flights from here in the near future. It will cover all the major domestic cities and cargo operations from all over India.
Terminal 2 - Under construction: Other terminals of Bhatinda airport are still under construction and will resume their services in the near future. International terminal will open soon after the completion of construction work.
