Major Airports in Punjab

Amritsar International Airport

Amritsar AirportAmritsar airport is popularly known as the Raja Sansi international Airport because its located near the village of Raja Sansi (Amritsar-Ajnala road).Official name of airport is  Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru and the founder of Amritsar city. It is an international airport about 11 kilometres (7 mi) northwest of the city of Amritsar, India

 A number of domestic flights, like the Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Air Deccan, Kingfisher, and Spice Jet, come in and go out of this airport. Besides, there are international flights, like Turkmenistan Airlines, Uzbekistan Airlines,Qatar Airways and Air India, which connect Punjab with other key destination in the world.

Runway

Airports Authority of India had placed orders for equipment required for a CAT II Instrument Landing System (ILS) from a German-based flight safety equipment firm Thales.The ILS became operational on 23 December 2011.

The present CAT II system has reduced the visibility requirement for an aircraft landing at Amritsar Airport on Runway 34 from the existing 650 metres to 350 metres benefiting airlines in terms of increased safety and avoiding diversions to other airports resulting in better operational and environmental efficiency.

The runway is currently going through an upgrade of its inset lighting .

 

Chandigarh International Airport

Chandigarh International AirportChandigarh is the capital city of two states-Haryana and Punjab and is a favourite destination of many travellers.

Chandigarh International Airport (IATA: IXC, ICAO: VICG) serves the city of Chandigarh, states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.The Airport's new terminal building for both domestic and international flights was inaugurated on 11 September 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The airport runway is located in the Union territory of Chandigarh while the new terminal is located in Jheurheri village at SAS Nagar district of Punjab.There are approximately 35 takeoffs and landings per day with flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Srinagar, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.

Punjab & Haryana each have 24.5% stake and the Airports Authority of India holds the rest of 51% stake in the new terminal building.
